January 2015 was a banner month in the comic book universe with new releases and some classic comic books being released under new publishers. Marvel Comics and DC Comics took the top five in comic book sales in the month of January, with Marvel Comics taking four of those top five spots. Image Comics snuck into the top ten spot with cult classic, The Walking Dead.
The biggest news from January of 2015 was Marvel Comics revamp and release of the hit movie and comic book favorite, Star Wars. Marvel had a 41.05% share of comics sold to comic stores in January, according to information released by Diamond Comic Distributors, besting #2 DC by nearly 17 points. The driving force in Marvel’s January market share dominance was the release of Star Wars #1, the best-selling comic in recent years. Marvel Comics was also dominant throughout the rest of the Top 10, with eight of the top ten slots. Marvel Comics Avengers, Spider-Man and Wolverines comics all placed high in sales taking the top ten spots.
DC Comics Batman, always a big seller monthly, took the number two spot in comic book sales. Justice League was DC Comics’ next best-seller followed by the dazzling Harley Quinn comic book. DC Comics’ Earth 2: Worlds End and Batgirl are rapidly making their way up the charts, climbing fast and gaining more fans.
There were several other comic book hits in the month of January 2015 from Boom Comics, DC Comics’ Vertigo line, IDW Comics and Image Comics. Image Comics popularity this month was in graphic novels taking seven of the top ten spots. Valiant gave comic book fans Ivar: Timewalker; this time-traveling comic is full of mystery and a ton of fun.
