X-Factor comic books spin-out of the popular X-Men series and has been relaunched several times over the years. It was first published in 1986 and consisted of the five original X-Men, Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Jean Grey and Iceman. This series was canceled in 1998.
The next appearance of X-Factor comic books came in 2002 with an all-new four part mini-series. This mini-series detailed an investigation by the Mutant Civil Rights Task Force into an alleged conspiracy by hate-groups to commit murder against mutants. The series was written by Jeff Jensen with artwork by Arthur Ranson.
In 2005 a new X-Factor series was launched and it followed the mutant detective agency X-Factor Investigations. These X-Factor comic books were written by Peter David and the comic book run ended in 2010.
In 2014 Peter David started a new chapter for X-Factor, with All-New X-Factor. All-New X-Factor was launched featuring a new corporate-sponsored X-Factor team which includes Polaris, Quicksilver, Gambit, Danger, Cypher and Warlock.
As you can see, over the years and several relaunches X-Factor comic books have switched up the X-Men, but the goal has always remained the same, protect mutants.
